What We Believe:
THE NAZARENE DENOMINATION WAS FOUNDED AND CONTINUES TO BE DRIVEN BY TWO MAIN ASPECTS:
(THIS IS THE HEARTBEAT OF THE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE.)
We believe that God has called every human being to know him, to be holy, and to walk in this holiness in such a way that we are “entirely sanctified”. Unfortunately, this term is misunderstood – Based on the theology of John Wesley, (Christian perfection, Perfect love, entire sanctification, etc…) entire sanctification simply means that as a person comes to know Christ and they completely devote themselves to God, the Holy Spirit does such a work inside of the believer’s life that they are no longer “bent” towards sin and selfishness, but now they are “bent” towards righteousness and God.
We believe that God has called the Church to reach out and make Christ-like disciples of every “nation” (ethnic group). But, we believe in wholeness and creativity. The Nazarene Church is in over 160 countries worldwide, including “creative access” countries (hostile areas that are unwelcoming to the Gospel – places to where Christianity might be illegal and persecution expected). So, we have to be creative in how we reach these nations. Regarding wholeness, our approach is to care for the whole person – Physically, Mentally, Emotionally and Spiritually. In some ways, it’s this very way that we are being creative to reach the hard places to reach. When Christ’s love is on display for the lost and lonely and poor and powerless, doors are opened. Yes, preaching the Gospel and evangelizing is essential, but just as Jesus cared for the whole person, so we follow suit – We have developed an incredible worldwide ministry known as Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM). ABOUT THE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE:
YORKTOWN CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE:
AS THE YORKTOWN CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, WE ADHERE BY AND APPROVE OF WHAT WAS STATED ABOVE.
UNIQUELY TO YCON, OUR MISSION STATEMENT CAN BE FOUND AND UNDERSTOOD BY THE ACRONYM, “L.I.V.I.N.G CHRIST”
By actively loving anyone and everyone we come into contact with, as Christ loves us.
We love by inviting others into their own lives and in hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Victory in Christ
We are over comers of the world by the victory of Jesus Christ over sin and death by what Jesus did on the cross and in the grave.
We have been transformed and made new from the inside out.
As the Church, we have a special kind of connection with one other through the love and power of the Holy Spirit, and we have a passion to share it with those who don’t know Christ and don’t have it.
Accepting to be found by the unexpected and undeserving love and pursuit of Jesus.
Our Principles for Christian Doctrine:
In essential beliefs — We have unity
“There is one Body and one Spirit… there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and on God and Father of us all…” (Ephesians 4:4-6)
In non-essential beliefs — We have liberty
“Accept them… whose faith is weak, without passing judgement on disputable matters… Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls… So then each of us will give an account of himself to God… So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God.” (Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22)
In all our beliefs — We show charity
“… If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have the faith that can move mountains – but have no love, I amount to nothing at all” (1 Corinthians 13:2)
